State officials are moving to downsize a program that allows employees to get cheap, taxpayer-subsidized rent in parkland homes and will annually review rental fees to ensure workers are paying their fair share.

“The goal has been to shrink that program and it will continue to shrink going forward,” Department of Conservation and Recreation commissioner Rick Sullivan said, responding to a Herald report that found some state workers paying as low as $300 a month to live in pricey suburban homes.

How come it takes an article in the Herald in order for our state to start looking at all their ridiculous programs and spending habits to make a change. This is exactly why those of us in this state are so fed up with our elected officials who continue to tell us we have to pay more for everything while they continue ripping off the taxpayers of this state.

The "big mess" is the one created by the current administration & it will take the next administration to make the taxpayers of this commonwealth their priority when it comes to managing where the money should be spent to maintain our parks, keep them staffed, open, and preserved!!

Hey. When all else fails; blame Bush!! The truth is; in the last three years, the Deval administration has made considerable progress decimating the DCR budget while Ian Bowles has padded his payroll with 10 workers making $100,000-plus and another 10 making $90,000-plus implementing the state's voluminous new environmental initiatives. At the same time, they have not retained or replaced officers of the Mass Environmental Enforcement Division that do real work enforcing environmental law. They have fired rangers & firefighters that maintain our state parks. They have clear cut state park land, sold the wood to Canada and plan on using the state parks as fuel for incinerators. They attempted to change the law that protects our rivers from being drained in summer. They have left the parks unmanned & shortened the camping seasons at parks that were once open year round by previous administrations. The hardworking taxpayers’ of this commonwealth deserve to have environmental law enforced, to have these parks maintained and staffed. Maybe this could happen if they weren’t wasting so many resources on crafting some out of touch politician’s nonsensical legacy.
