Bigs vow to adjust rents for park homes

State officials are moving to downsize a program that allows employees to get cheap, taxpayer-subsidized rent in parkland homes and will annually review rental fees to ensure workers are paying their fair share.

“The goal has been to shrink that program and it will continue to shrink going forward,” Department of Conservation and Recreation commissioner Rick Sullivan said, responding to a Herald report that found some state workers paying as low as $300 a month to live in pricey suburban homes.
