Lester Grumpy / Neely Greatness / Patriots Have To Close Better
Posted by Michael Connelly at 10:51 pm

1. Went to the Red Sox Sunday - some observations

* Would hate to play behind Jon Lester - his body language is a disgrace when a bad play behind him and twice was staring down Nava after bad plays in left
* By the way Lester you gave up 9 hits and walked three and no one showed you up by staring you down
* Pack of baseball cards were $5 I once got ten packs for $1
* Waters $3.75
* Now I know why Jerry Kapstien stole those head phones from Logan airport - its so he doesn’t have to listen to all the drunks and dopes around him
* Someone explain how fans haven’t been killed by foul balls that close to play
* David Ortiz 2-15 since home run derby

2. In the Patriots seven losses last year they were outscored 100 to 45 in the second half

3. In the 2000-2001 Celtic season, Antoine Walker averaged a turnover every 11 minutes and a missed 1.18 three pointers per quarter for the season

4. Bruins - Some fun facts about Cam Neely’s 1993-1994 season:

* 50 goals in 44 games (didn’t score in last five games)
* Three hat tricks
* Eleven two goal games
* Team was 16-4-4 when he had at least two points

5. Red Sox players in the minor leagues this year:

* Dice K, Beckett, Atchinson, Buchholz, combined for 40.5 innings / 3.33 ERA
* Ellsbury, Cameron and Hermida have combined for 16-48 (.334 avg) / 3 HR - 7 RBI

6. Around Major League Baseball

* Yankees - Hughes, Pettitte and Sabathia are 34-7 / the rest of the team is 24-26
* Jacoby Ellsbury and Coco Crisp have combined to play in 30 games this year
* Buehrle - Pavano game Saturday took 1:52
* Carlos Pena has 32 extra base hits and 35 singles
* Bobby Cox’s last year might be his best year: 54-38 being 15th in payroll / playing in front of 39% of the stadium empty
* Saturday the Yankees honored George Steinbrenner and Bob Sheppard and the game was not sold out - 9% empty
* Aroldis Chapman for the Red minor league team Louisville Bats has struck out 94 batters in 76 innings
* Dallas Braden is 0-5 since his Mother’s Day perfect game

7. Amazing (maybe not amazing but interesting) Stat - The trio of Florida pitchers that led the team to the 2003 World Series - Beckett, Penny and Burnett since leaving Florida:

* Beckett……….66-35 / 4.22 ERA / $44mm

* Penny…………60-46 / 3.84 ERA / $34mm

8. Old School - Coach Doggie Julian led Holy Cross to the NCAA championship in 1947 - from there he went on to coach the Celtics but stepped down allowing Red Auerbach to take the position

9. Just a Little Bit Outside - Tiger 0-8 this year and hasn’t won a major in his last seven attempts - Winning eighteen majors takes more than talent - health, controlled ego, luck and keeping the putter in the bag

* Don’t want to get too excited but Training Camp right around the corner
* Lot of burnt out lawns out there
* Love Jordan coming down on the Miami Heat circus - saying he wasn’t trying to join the better players he was trying to beat them
* The right corner on the third base foul line for the soccer game Wednesday is going to be treacherous for players with the foul wall right there
* 7 Up then Sprite then Mountain Dew
* By the way what ever happened to the Kool Aid guy did he have a heart attack or something?
