Thursday to Sunday nightlife, in fliers (grand finale)
Posted by Michael Marotta at 1:52 pm

Forget 2012 — when it comes to Boston Herald’s music blog Hotline, The End is now. Hotline began as a daily column in the print edition around 2007, eventually shifting over the web to keep pace with pop culture and offer up-to-the-minute updates and bulletins. And now with my last day at the Herald arriving tomorrow, we’re closing out Hotline’s run with one final Weekend Flier Roundup. Maybe the “New Michael” will pick up where I left off, maybe not. Godspeed.

Thursday to Sunday nightlife, in fliers (the end?!?)
Posted by Michael Marotta at 2:27 pm

With next week being my Epic Grand Finale at the Boston Herald, the sad reality that this could be the last Weekend Flier Roundup has set in. To quote the great Brett “I Don’t Pitch For Oakland” Anderson of UK Britpop pioneers Suede, “How sad!” But life goes on, people move on, and we’ll all still be at various bars around Boston drinking the weekend away. Cue the closing credits and let’s peep what’s on tap this weekend…

Thursday to Sunday nightlife, in fliers (Memorial Day!)
Posted by Michael Marotta at 1:22 pm

Score, we’re looking dead-red at a glorious three-day weekend, which means we get two Saturday nights and one brutal Tuesday morning hangover. But before you make those patio BBQ plans for all-day boozapalooza on Monday, don’t sleep on a fantabulous weekend party slate around Boston.Things are pretty non-stop around these parts as we count down the last Days of Hotline, so fix up, rock out and dance it up.

Pulp’s ‘Common People’ is 15 years old
Posted by Michael Marotta at 12:49 pm

Possibly the high-point of Britpop, Pulp’s seminal class-warfare anthem “Common People” was released fifteen years ago this Saturday, and well, that’s as good a reason as any to look back on one of the most colorful and coolest videos ever released. We’ll touch on the 15th anniversary of the Blur Vs Oasis dispute sometime in August, but in the meantime, sing along and it might just get you through…

Eli ‘Paperboy’ Reed announces June tour dates
Posted by Michael Marotta at 11:41 am

When Eli “Paperboy” Reed & the True Loves hit the Middle East in Cambridge early next month (June 10, to be exact), it won’t be some random one-off homecoming date for the Brookline native.

Instead, the newest pride of Capitol Records has strung together a nice little stateside tour, bringing along Atlanta psych dudes the Constellations for some coast-to-coast rock n’ soul action.

Here’s the itinerary, and don’t sleep on the home date, as Spirit Kid — featuring one-time True Love Emeen Z — opens the show proper. Ze dates:

June 3: Mercury Lounge, NYC
June 10: Middle East Downstairs, Boston MA
June 11: North Star Bar, Philadelphia PA
June 12: The Beachland Ballroom, Cleveland OH
June 13: The Empty Bottle, Chicago IL
June 15: The Mercy Lounge, Nashville TN
June 17: Sundown in the City Festival, Knoxville TN
June 18: Rock ‘n Roll Hotel, Washington DC
June 19: The Bell House, Brooklyn NY
June 23: The Roxy, Los Angeles CA
